How safe is Northern Cyprus for families and Retirees?

Safe. So Safe That It Feels Almost Unreal.

It’s safe here. And not just “pretty safe” — really safe. Everyone who lives in Northern Cyprus, even those who’ve been here only for a short time, will tell you the same.

This feeling is so strong and so unusual that whenever you travel somewhere else, you have to remind yourself: be careful, pay attention — you’re not in Northern Cyprus anymore.

I’ve only felt this kind of comfort and security in two places — here and in Dubai. It sounds strange, almost unbelievable, but it’s true. During our first year here, I couldn’t stop being surprised.

People leave their keys outside the door. They leave their cars running in supermarket parking lots. My kids have lost their gadgets — phones, laptops — more than once… and every single time, they found them exactly where they left them.

Once, they even forgot a laptop at their favorite place — Mano, the famous sushi bar with signature cuisine in Kyrenia. Before my kids even realized it was missing, the owner called me. She had my number because we often order delivery, and she told me about this “small accident” with a smile.

That’s Northern Cyprus — kind, honest, and safe in a way that feels almost impossible nowadays.

And what about retirees? They probably enjoy it even more. There are so many small, warm communities here — people connect through shared interests, support each other, and truly live like neighbors used to.

So yes — it’s as safe as possible. Sometimes it even feels too safe — if that’s possible.

Come here anytime and feel this unforgettable sense of peace and belonging for yourself.

P.S.
By the way, there are no homeless people in Northern Cyprus. It’s a rare and remarkable thing — a result of several factors: government support programs, affordable housing for locals, and strong social traditions that encourage helping family and neighbors in need. It’s something worth noticing… and appreciating.
